Fantastic Resource!!

Wow! This book is amazing! Currently I'm attending a Bible school and doing a survey class in the Old Testament, and this book has been a tremendous help. It does a great job summarizing and explaining every book of the Bible, giving a good overview of the setting, main themes, outline, points of interest, relevant articles, application, and key verse, while consistently supplying wonderful illustrations. Keeping the big picture in mind through each book of the Bible, and for each section in the books, has been most helpful, as everything is consistently explained very clearly and concisely. The cover, arrangement of the text, pictures, and the gloss of the pages is outstanding.
This book should not be viewed as highly scholarly, as it does not delve deeply into technical details of authorship, historical background, textual issues, etc. But I would say that this would be a great companion textbook to any introductory survey through either Testament.
This is a welcome addition to my library, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a resource or study aid made at this level.

Very Useful Handbook

Very useful book for anyone wanting to dig deeper into the cultures of the Biblical authors. Lot's of beautiful pictures from to take the reader out of their living room and into the world of the Bible. The many articles in the handbook are fabulous tools as well. Especially nice were the larger articles in the back of the handbook dealing with textual criticism and various other topics.
The only complaint I would have is the pictures in the bulk of the handbook are not tied into the surrounding text in any meaningful fashion. They're always placed relevant to the chapter or book, but very often not addressed, though they may be critical to understanding the cultural phenomena.
